On Friday, 26th September, Finnway International School hosted a special Kindergarten Learning Café with a focus on our Special Educational Needs (SEN) programme. The event brought together parents, teachers, and students to share insights, build connections, and strengthen our community’s shared commitment to inclusive education.
A Warm Welcome for Parents
Parents were welcomed into the heart of our Kindergarten, beginning the day with coffee, tea, and an opportunity to meet other families. This relaxed start set the tone for open conversations and meaningful engagement — a reminder that strong partnerships between school and home are at the core of each child’s learning journey.
Exploring the SEN Programme
The session began with an overview of Finnway’s SEN approach, highlighting how we support children’s diverse needs in a way that ensures they feel safe, supported, and valued. Our team shared updates on the programme’s structure, resources, and strategies, helping parents understand how these efforts translate into everyday classroom practice.
A guided tour of our newly designed SEN room was a particular highlight. This thoughtfully created space is designed to provide a calm, supportive environment where children can focus, feel comfortable, and thrive.
Learning in Action
Parents then joined open classroom visits in K2 and K3, seeing firsthand how the SEN strategies and inclusive practices are embedded into daily routines. Observing the classrooms in action offered valuable insight into how well-being, agency, and collaboration are fostered from the earliest years of learning.
Pillars That Shape Our Approach
The event reflected four key pillars that guide our work at Finnway:
- Well-Being: Ensuring every child feels emotionally and physically secure.
- Agency: Encouraging children to be active participants in their learning.
- Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships between educators, parents, and specialists.
- Action: Bringing inclusive practices into daily classroom life, with strategies that families can also use at home.
These pillars are not abstract ideas — they form the foundation of our teaching approach and shape the experiences of every child in our care.
A Shared Purpose
By the end of the session, parents left with:
- A clearer understanding of how SEN support works at Finnway.
- Practical insights into strategies used in classrooms.
- A sense of connection with teachers and other parents.
- A deeper appreciation of the community we build together.
Gratitude and Looking Ahead
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the parents who joined us for their curiosity and partnership, to our dedicated staff and teachers who created such an informative and welcoming experience, and to our wonderful students, whose energy and openness are the heart of everything we do.
Events like the Kindergarten Learning Café reaffirm our belief that when schools and families work together, we create the strongest foundation for every child’s growth. We look forward to continuing these conversations and welcoming you to future Learning Café sessions.
