Exploring Literacy Together: Primary Learning Café at Finnway

On Monday, 29th September 2025, Finnway International School welcomed parents and families to our Primary Learning Café, an interactive afternoon dedicated to Literacy. The event, held in the Multi-Purpose Room, gave parents the opportunity to step into the heart of our classrooms and experience first-hand how literacy is taught, explored, and celebrated at Finnway.

A Hands-On Literacy Experience

Throughout the afternoon, parents joined their children at Literacy Stations across Grades 1–6. These interactive stations showcased a variety of activities designed to spark curiosity and highlight the many ways in which literacy skills are nurtured.

From understanding the building blocks of reading and writing to exploring communication and expression, the stations reflected Finnway’s student-centred approach to learning. Parents were able to see not just what their children are learning, but how they are learning — a powerful window into the discovery-driven experiences that define the Finnway classroom.

Guided by Exploration: “The Way We Learn”

The Primary Learning Café focused on our school pillar of Exploration — encouraging curiosity and critical thinking by placing students at the centre of their own learning journey.

Literacy at Finnway is more than just reading and writing. It is about enabling students to ask questions, express their ideas, and build confidence in communicating their thoughts. By inviting parents to take part, we created a shared space for discovery and dialogue — an important step in supporting children’s growth as learners.

Key Takeaways for Families

Parents had the chance to explore and learn about:

  • The key areas of literacy and how they are taught across the Primary Years
  • How literacy is integrated across the curriculum, supporting every subject and area of learning
  • The methods we use to track literacy progress, celebrating each student’s individual journey
  • Insights into English as an Additional Language (EAL) and how students from diverse linguistic backgrounds are supported
  • Practical strategies for supporting literacy at home, helping parents feel empowered to continue the learning journey beyond the classroom

A Community Effort

Events like the Learning Café reflect the collaborative spirit that drives Finnway’s approach to education.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to:

  • Our dedicated teachers and staff for creating engaging, meaningful activities
  • Our students, who confidently shared their learning and progress
  • Our parents and families, whose curiosity and enthusiasm enrich our community

By coming together, we strengthen the partnership that supports every student’s growth and success.

Building Lifelong Learners

At Finnway International School, we believe that literacy is the foundation of exploration, creativity, and lifelong learning. By involving parents in the learning process, we not only celebrate our students’ achievements but also show how powerful it can be when school and home work hand in hand.

The Primary Learning Café was a reminder that learning is not confined to the classroom — it thrives in the relationships we build and the curiosity we inspire.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special event. Together, we continue to nurture confident, curious learners ready to explore the world through the power of literacy.
