A Storybook Week to Remember: Finnway International School’s Book Week 2025
Last week, Finnway International School was transformed into a literary wonderland as we celebrated Book Week 2025! With books at the heart of learning, this week was all about sparking imagination, nurturing a love for reading, and bringing stories to life in creative and engaging ways.

A Week of Literary Adventures
From page-turning activities to a bestseller of a dress-up parade, Book Week was filled with exciting experiences that inspired our students to dive deeper into the magical world of books.
📖 Budding Authors & Illustrators: Our students embraced their creativity by writing and illustrating their very own books, showcasing their storytelling skills and artistic flair.
🎨 Cover-Worthy Artwork: Inspired by their favourite reads, students designed stunning book covers, proving that a book’s first impression truly matters!
📚 Reading Aloud: Parents and older students joined in the fun, reading beloved stories to our younger bookworms, fostering a sense of community through shared storytelling.
🎭 The Grand Finale – Book Week Assembly & Dress-Up Parade: On Friday, we wrapped up the week with an unforgettable Book Week Assembly, where students proudly showcased their literary love by dressing up as their favourite book characters—from Roald Dahl’s mischievous heroes to Hogwarts’ most famous wizards!
A huge thank you to our students, teachers, and parents for making Book Week 2025 such a resounding success! The enthusiasm and passion for books on display truly proved that reading remains an essential part of our learning journey.
The Importance of Reading
Reading is far more than just an academic skill—it is a gateway to imagination, knowledge, and lifelong learning. Studies have shown that children who develop strong reading habits from an early age not only perform better in school but also develop essential critical thinking, empathy, and communication skills.
Books allow us to travel through time, explore different cultures, and experience new perspectives—all from the comfort of a cosy reading nook. Whether it’s an adventure story that fuels creativity or a factual book that expands knowledge, every page turned helps to build a strong foundation for future learning and success.

A Brief History of Books
The journey of books began thousands of years ago, evolving from ancient manuscripts and clay tablets to the beautifully bound books we know today.
📜 Ancient Beginnings: The earliest recorded writings date back to Mesopotamia (circa 3000 BCE), where scribes used clay tablets to record information. Meanwhile, in Egypt, papyrus scrolls became a revolutionary way to document knowledge.
📖 The Birth of Books: The first true books emerged in Ancient Rome, where codices (early bound books) replaced scrolls, making reading and writing more efficient.
🖨️ The Printing Press Revolution: In the 15th century, Johannes Gutenberg’s printing press changed the world by making books more accessible, leading to a surge in literacy and knowledge-sharing.
📚 Modern-Day Reading: Today, we have access to a vast array of books in print, digital, and even audio formats, ensuring that the joy of reading remains alive for generations to come.
Looking Forward to Next Year!
Book Week 2025 may have come to an end, but the love of reading at Finnway International School is just beginning a new chapter! We encourage all our students to keep exploring the wonderful world of books and continue their journey as lifelong readers.
