On the 7th of November 2022, Finnway International School Phuket celebrated the beautiful and traditional festival of Loy Krathong, also known as the “Festival of Lights”. The festival is a stunning display of Thai culture and traditions, and we were honoured to celebrate it with our students, teachers, and parents.
The word “loy” or “loi” means to float, while “krathong” refers to the small rafts or baskets that are traditionally made from banana leaves or the bark of a banana tree. These krathongs usually contain a candle, incense, and flowers, and they are floated down rivers or canals to pay respect to the water goddess and to wash away bad luck.
The festival of Loy Krathong is celebrated annually in Thailand and is considered one of the most beautiful festivals in the country. It is a time for families and friends to come together and celebrate the beauty of Thai culture and traditions.
At Finnway International School Phuket, we were thrilled to celebrate Loy Krathong for the first time with our students, teachers, and parents. Our celebration included making krathongs using traditional materials, lighting candles and incense, and floating the krathongs down a nearby river.
The festival of Loy Krathong provided an opportunity for our students to learn about Thai culture and traditions, and to understand the significance of the festival. It was a beautiful and educational experience for all involved, and we are grateful to everyone who made it possible.
In conclusion, the festival of Loy Krathong is a stunning display of Thai culture and traditions, and we were honoured to celebrate it at Finnway International School Phuket. The festival provides an opportunity for families and friends to come together and celebrate the beauty of Thai culture, and for our students to learn about Thai traditions and their significance. We are grateful to everyone who made our first Loy Krathong celebration a success, and we look forward to celebrating this beautiful festival for many years to come.
