Suitcase Tales: A Journey into Project-Based Learning and Finnish Educational Excellence
At Finnway International School, we believe that true learning goes beyond textbooks and tests. Our recent Year 5/6 project, Suitcase Tales, is a shining example of how project-based learning (PBL) can ignite creativity, foster deeper understanding, and develop multiliteracy in a way that traditional methods rarely achieve.
Suitcase Tales project
Under the umbrella of the transdisciplinary theme of Multiliteracy, students embarked on a unique storytelling journey—both literally and figuratively. The Suitcase Tales project challenged pupils to explore narrative through journal entries, personal experiences, and creative expression, all within a global and cultural context. The results were nothing short of inspiring.
The students’ dedication and imagination brought their stories to life, demonstrating not only their command of language but also their ability to think critically, collaborate, and present ideas with confidence. From crafting detailed journal entries to weaving compelling stories, each contribution reflected a strong grasp of multiliteracy—an essential skill in today’s interconnected world.

This project also reflects the values at the heart of the Finnish education system: holistic learning, student agency, and real-world relevance. In Finland, education is not just about academic excellence; it’s about nurturing well-rounded individuals who can think independently, work cooperatively, and engage with the world in meaningful ways. Project-based learning is a cornerstone of this approach, empowering students to take ownership of their learning while developing essential life skills.
We are incredibly proud of what our students have achieved through Suitcase Tales. It was a project rooted in curiosity, driven by creativity, and supported by a community that values learning in all its forms. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to this success—your support helped make it possible.
As we look to the next academic year, we’re excited to build on this momentum and continue exploring innovative, student-centred approaches to education. Here’s to more stories, more learning, and more journeys that begin with curiosity.
