At Finnway International School, education doesn’t stop at academics. We believe in nurturing the whole child – and that includes supporting the health and well-being of our students and their families. That’s why we were proud to host the Bangkok Hospital Parent Session on Thursday, June 5th, focused on a particularly relevant topic: “Common Infectious Diseases in Children During the Rainy Season.”

Led by Dr. Waroon Tangjitrapitak, a Specialist in Paediatrics and Paediatric Infectious Diseases from Bangkok Hospital, this informative session offered our parent community practical advice and expert insights during a time of year when childhood illnesses are on the rise.
Why These Sessions Matter
Rainy season in Thailand brings with it an increased risk of infectious diseases, particularly in young children. While we ensure strict hygiene and health protocols on campus, prevention and early action at home are just as important. By offering sessions like this, we aim to empower parents with up-to-date knowledge and guidance to help keep their children healthy and safe.
More than just a school, Finnway is a community – one where collaboration between parents, educators, and health professionals is key to every child’s success.
What Is an Infectious Disease?
An infectious disease is caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites and can spread, either directly or indirectly, from one person to another. In school settings, where children are in close contact, these illnesses can pass quickly if not properly managed.
Preventing Infectious Diseases in Children
Dr. Waroon shared some essential strategies for disease prevention, including:
- Teaching children proper handwashing techniques
- Ensuring up-to-date vaccinations
- Avoiding contact with sick individuals
- Maintaining a healthy diet and adequate sleep to support immune function
These simple habits, when practiced consistently, can dramatically reduce the risk of illness.
Treatment Approaches for Common Infections
When children do fall ill, early recognition and proper treatment are vital. Dr. Waroon discussed:
- When to seek medical attention
- Common signs and symptoms of illnesses like the flu, hand-foot-and-mouth disease, and respiratory infections
- The importance of hydration, rest, and completing prescribed treatments
A Big Thank You
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Waroon Tangjitrapitak and Bangkok Hospital for partnering with us in our mission to support families. We also thank all the parents who attended – your involvement plays a crucial role in the well-being of our school community.
At Finnway, we do more than teach – we connect, care, and empower. Stay tuned for more community sessions and workshops throughout the year, as we continue working together for the benefit of every child.
