Chinese New Year at Finnway International School Phuket

Chinese New Year, A celebration of culture, creativity, and community

Chinese New Year is always a special moment at Finnway International School, and this year’s celebration truly reflected the heart of our school: joyful learning, student leadership, and a strong sense of community.

Our campus came alive with colour, music, movement, and laughter as students across year groups took part in a vibrant programme of activities. From traditional games and hands-on cultural stations to beautiful fan dances, energetic lion dances, singing, and shared food, the day offered students a rich and meaningful way to experience Chinese culture.

Student-led celebrations in action

One of the highlights of the day was seeing our students confidently take the lead. Performances were planned, practised, and proudly presented by the children themselves—showcasing not only cultural understanding, but also creativity, teamwork, and confidence. These moments reflect Finnway’s commitment to student agency, where learners actively shape their experiences rather than simply observe them.

Learning beyond the classroom

Celebrations like Chinese New Year are an important part of learning at Finnway. They connect culture, creativity, language, and social skills in a way that feels authentic and memorable. Through music, movement, storytelling, and shared traditions, students deepen their understanding of the world while building empathy and respect for different cultures.

A true community effort

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our parents who generously contributed food and took time to join us on campus to support the celebration. Your involvement helps create the warm, inclusive atmosphere that makes Finnway such a special place to learn.

A big thank you also goes to our dedicated teachers and staff, whose guidance and support behind the scenes ensured the day ran smoothly and allowed students to shine.

Thank you, Finnway students

Most of all, we are incredibly proud of our students. Once again, they showed leadership, enthusiasm, and joy—turning Chinese New Year into a celebration that brought our whole community together.

We look forward to many more moments like this, where learning, culture, and community come together in meaningful ways.
