Finnway Mini Market 2024

Finnish Curriculum's transversal competencies “the future skills”

Exploring the real-life application of the Finnish Curriculum’s transversal competencies “the future skills” within the school environment is at the heart of Finnway International School, Phuket where skills relevant to the future are fostered.

At Finnway, the seven competencies are actively incorporated throughout the curriculum, with a particular focus on project-based learning to nurture student agency and skill-based education. Reflecting on the recent Mini-Market project, the primary students engaged deeply with TC6 – Working Life Competence and Entrepreneurship, honing various skills while exploring the market culture that holds substantial importance in Thailand.
In this project, the core skills practiced were:

  • Collaboration and networking
  • Project management
  • Understanding businesses and industries
  • Entrepreneurship

The final event of the project brought together students from our kindergarten and primary levels, along with teachers and parents, who collectively enjoyed an amazing market morning together.

Students engaged in the process of creating their own products, beginning from the initial stages. This process included detailed planning, acquiring necessary supplies considering sustainability, collaborating on ideas within their groups, designing stands, marketing, and finally, selling their products.

Through collaborative efforts, students are given the opportunity to make decisions regarding how proceeds were allocated, whether it will be for charitable purposes or reinvesting in the school community.
