Mental Health Week at Finnway International School: A Week of Feelings

From May 12th to 16th, Finnway International School was filled with colour, creativity, and compassion as we celebrated Mental Health Week: A Week of Feelings. This important initiative was designed to help students better understand, express, and embrace their emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

Why Mental Health Week Matters

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s more important than ever to teach children the value of mental wellbeing. Just like we nurture physical health through exercise and nutrition, we must also take time to care for our minds. Mental Health Week gives students the opportunity to pause, reflect, and talk openly about how they feel—building emotional intelligence, empathy, and resilience.

By creating a culture where feelings are not only acknowledged but celebrated, we’re helping young people develop lifelong skills that support self-awareness and healthy relationships. At Finnway, we believe these skills are just as vital as academics in preparing students for the future.

A Week of Feelings – Colour, Mood, and Meaning

Each day of the week was themed around a colour and a core emotion, encouraging students to explore how different feelings show up in their lives. Here’s a look at our colourful journey:

💚 Monday – CALM (Green)

“When you’re calm, the world feels still,
A quiet mind, a peaceful will.”

We began the week by finding stillness and peace, connecting with our breath and learning how to centre ourselves when things feel overwhelming.

🔴 Tuesday – ANGRY (Red)

“Red is fire, strong and bright,
Anger shows when things aren’t right.”

Anger was our focus on Tuesday. Through activities and discussions, students learned that anger is a valid emotion—and how to express it safely and respectfully.

🔵 Wednesday – SAD (Blue)

“Blue like rain or teary skies,
Sadness comes with soft goodbyes.”

On Wednesday, we talked about sadness. It was a gentle, reflective day that reminded students it’s okay to feel down, and that support is always available.

💗 Thursday – LOVED (Pink)

“Pink is hugs and gentle cheer,
A feeling warm when friends are near.”

Thursday was all about love—feeling loved and showing love. The school was glowing in pink as students shared acts of kindness and talked about what makes them feel valued.

🌈 Friday – ALL EMOTIONS (Rainbow)

“Feelings come in every shade,
Happy, mad, or maybe afraid.”

We ended the week with a vibrant rainbow theme, celebrating all emotions. During a special assembly, students shared their artwork, writing, and performances inspired by what they learned throughout the week.

A Special Guest – Milla from Safe Space Phuket

We were honoured to welcome Milla Budiarto from Safe Space Phuket to speak with our students. Milla’s warm and engaging session gave students practical tips for managing emotions and reminded us all that it’s okay to ask for help. She shared simple but powerful activities that anyone can use to feel more grounded and connected—tools our students can carry with them well beyond the classroom.

Looking Ahead

Mental Health Week may have come to an end, but the conversations, lessons, and colourful emotions will continue to be part of daily life at Finnway. We are incredibly proud of our students for their openness, creativity, and kindness throughout the week. They showed us that with support, awareness, and a splash of colour, we can all grow into more emotionally healthy individuals.

💖 Well done to all our amazing Finnway students—you were incredible!
