Songkran 2025: A Splash of Culture and Joy!

Songkran 2025 at Finnway International School: A Splash of Culture and Joy!

At Finnway International School, we believe in celebrating culture not just through textbooks, but through vibrant, hands-on experiencesβ€”and Songkran 2025 was the perfect example! From heartfelt water blessings to wild and wonderful water fights, our campus was bursting with joy, tradition, and soaked uniforms (in the best way possible).

But what exactly is Songkran?

Songkran is Thailand’s traditional New Year festival, celebrated every April. More than just water fights (although we love those!), Songkran is deeply rooted in Buddhist traditions. The festival represents renewal, purification, and fresh beginningsβ€”a symbolic washing away of the past year to welcome in the new.

The word Songkran comes from the Sanskrit word saαΉ…krānti, meaning β€œastrological transition.” Specifically, it marks the sun’s annual journey into the zodiac sign of Aries, signalling a time of change and fresh energy.

How Songkran is Celebrated Across Thailand

Across the country, Songkran is celebrated with a beautiful mix of tradition and joyful chaos:
Water Blessings – Families gently pour fragrant water over the hands of elders as a sign of respect and to receive blessings for the year ahead.
Temple Visits – Many people visit temples to make merit, clean Buddha statues, and reflect on the past year.
Water Fights – Streets turn into splash zones! People of all ages join in with water guns, buckets, and even hoses to cool off in the April heat and celebrate together.
Cultural Shows & Parades – Colourful parades, traditional Thai dancing, and local festivities add to the rich cultural atmosphere.

Finnway’s Songkran Celebration

We brought all this magic to life on our campus with a celebration that combined respect for tradition and a good old-fashioned soak.

Students took part in traditional water blessing ceremonies, learning about the meaning and mindfulness behind this custom.
Then… we turned up the volume! Buckets, water blasters, and the loudest laughter echoed through the school as students, teachers, and even a few brave parents joined the fun.

The energy was contagious, the smiles were endless, and the community spirit was stronger than ever.

We’d like to extend a massive thank you to all our dedicated staff, enthusiastic students, and wonderfully supportive parents who made this celebration one to remember.

Wishing everyone a joyful, refreshing, and safe Songkran holiday. May your year ahead be filled with happiness, growth, and maybe just a few more water fights.

Happy Songkran from all of us at Finnway International School!
